Greetings to everyone in EDUC 633. This is my first attempt at authentic blogging! Our school district blogs on an intranet so my knowledge pertains only to that type of posting. My introduction video is located on YouTube at:

Enjoy!
Your choice of the outer space background is a good one. It would make a smooth transitional base if you were to bring in other windows during a presentation. However, you should make the window of yourself bigger – don’t hide down in the corner!
ReplyDeleteThe background you have in educational technology should contribute a lot to the class. I look forward to gleaning from your experiences and insights.

@tony: Thanks Tony. Yes, actually the program is for use in computer training. I played with the program settings in EDUC631 and discovered that my options are limited to some degree. I can resize the window on the screen slightly or I can do full screen of my head. I believe that the head screen is limited on the desktop view due to the special effects options - can spin it move it, etc. The reason I used it was because it automatically optimizes the file size for online use. I have a mini video camera that takes HD video but even at its lowest setting the files are quite large. Dr. Holder in 631 was not happy when I used it - might take down Blackboard! but, my video quality was gorgeous.
ReplyDelete@Daniel:
Thanks well, it is plain. Yes, it is difficult to be a purist in light of educational philosophy. I do know that if a person is not at least motivated in an activity, it is not going to have much impact with a student. Some believe that you can force students to learn through control by dangling a carrot in front of them. That works so far then they catch on and the effect drops plus it is all the work of the teacher. Kids are so dynamic and we have to meet that with creativity and innovation.
Alright, I guess this is the unveiling moment on the which of the three is false. You probably guessed it but I am NOT a gourmet cook. I can cook but it certainly isn't gourmet. :)
ReplyDeleteRodney,
ReplyDeleteHow did you come to the point of having 7 certifications? What was the qualification/testing process? Did some of the certifications qualify you for others that allowed for an easier process when getting the latter certifications? Are there any other's you are attempting/considering to get?
I love the idea of trying to provide ways for students to experience the content they need to learn. My approach to youth ministry was to try and teach kids to teach themselves. A big part of that is getting them to experience the content of what they believe.

@ Joe Good question. I started teaching with early childhood and elementary 1-6 certifications. Then later took scads of training offered in our district. At some point the state said that all teachers had to be ESOL certified (3) and I also got a degree in educational leadership which led to one more (4). I went back to school for reading diagnosis coursework (5), took 300 hours of training for the Gifted endorsement (6) when the university offered free courses within our staff development department and took the state examination for media specialist (7) as I work daily with gifted students, have run a media center and guide our school assistant currently who operates our media center. Basically I decided that if I was going to take training, I wanted more than just the hours to count toward re-certification. All of them are different areas and none of them overlap. I am filled to the brim with certs. I have to get hours of training each year to keep them! I want to teach at the college level now.
